My first bloggg...

My name is Paige Jones. I am entering my sophmore year here at USM and I am majoring in Therapeutic Recreation.  My major requires psychology as a minor because I plan on working with the mentally disabled children in my career.  As a child I used to use writing as an outlet.  I used to write poetry to express thoughts that I could not otherwise say out loud to other people.  In middle school I had a poem published in a poetry books for students, and it felt amazing to have my work appreciated by others.  So far in college, however, I have not had the opportunity to write free formed like I love to.  I also have not had many classes directed towards my major, so I have only had my general classes and writing in those classes are all very structured based.  The major papers I have written in college have been argumentative papers.  I have done well in my previous writing classes over the years, but there is one paper that has really been a pleasure for me to write.  In high school I had to write a paper about an interview with someone I admire and look up to.  The paper had to be about that person's proudest moment.  It was very sentimentel and touching because the person I interviewed was my best friend's grandmother.  My best friend, however, passed away in a freak accident and ironically her grandmother's proudest moment was when she became a grandmother.. to my best friend who passed.  Tears were shed and it was amazing to have her express that moment with me and that I could share it with everyone through my writing. In this course I hope to learn how to expand my writing abilities and make it easier for  me to share my thoughts with people.  In this course I do worry about how I will do because I am trying to get a summer job as well so, this will help me with time managment as well.  I hope to do well in this course!
